The Birds!

It's been a busy week. I had some surgical hardware removed from my foot so I've been laid up most of the week. But I did get some drawing done thanks to my lovely husband, AKA Fetcher of Art Supplies. I drew a lot of birds... A lot. Far more than pictured here.

I made this Osterhase (Easter Bunny) this morning. I love the way it came out but I'm going to re-do it with color.

This was a warbler... of some kind. I bookmarked so many reference photos of birds, I don't even know which is which anymore. I'll be adding color.

I'm really happy with this little one. It was a little experiment with negative space (I didn't draw the bird with lines--I used value only to give it form).

I picked up a new Epson flatbed scanner to document these, as well as some new ink. I'd never really thought much about the quality of ink before but switching to Dr. Ph. Martin's ink (from Higgins) made a huge difference. I'm in love! I used some Ph. Martin's liquid watercolors before but not their inks. I'm sold, not going back. This ink is so much more opaque and doesn't have any of the shine that the Higgins ink had when dry. The Ph. Martin's makes for great photos and scans. I'm planning on using the new scanner to make some limited edition prints for the art fairs I'm planning on selling at this year (pending jury approval...). I can't wait to get official approval on those. I'll share more once I'm accepted.
